Announced in August 2009 as a partnership between the BBC Good Food Show and the popular tv programs, MasterChef, MasterChef Live 2009, wow, what a fun filled day of all things food orientated!
My day began attending the Invention Test - a tried and tested tv program. The event was hosted by a selection of stars: Andy Peters, Terry Wogan, John Torode and Gregg Wallace. And the winner, overjoyed of course!
Feeling somewhat peckish, I found myself attending a sushi master class hosted by the Sushi Academy of London where among the great recipes taught I discovered that one of the sponsors, Mizkan, is a billion pound company built on sales of the vinegar used in sushi preparation. Anyone who has made sushi knows that without the vinegar it just doesn't work :)
The next master class was run by Squires Kitchen who ran a course on Cupcakes. A number of tips and hints were on offer though what else could we expect with the likes of Mark Tilling leading the event. Those unfamiliar with Mark should know that he is the king of chocolate, who includes among his titles, winner of the UK Chocolate Masters.
Urban Caprice followed with a master class on canapes. Less familiar with a number of vegetables I was glad to find a use for kohlrabi, a root that I have seen at the local farmers market but had never prior cooked with.
Of course these master classes were in addition to a number of other events, such as the MasterChef vs MasterChef competition and shows run by the Slow Food campaign, which today featured the Golden Company which runs as an initiative to encourage teenagers to spend their time productively, here, working to harvest their own honey.
As in previous years, the show is centered around a very large exhibition providing some of the best produce the country has to offer, not to mention the option to enjoy a number of dishes from some of the best restaurants in the city.
Those looking simply to browse or perhaps participate in some of the cooking master classes have until November 15th. As for a taster of the event, you can see a short video clip here:
