France arrests 12 Somali pirates

French warships arrested 12 suspected Somali pirates off the coasts of Somalia in Thursday, spokesman told on Friday.

Army spokesman Christophe Prazuck said that the navy held a mothership taking arms, ammunition and oil with two skiffs some 650 miles east of Hobyo in Somalia.

Prazuck told that France had not yet decided how to continue with the suspected Somali pirates.

Last Monday, Seven suspected Somali pirates who attacked a French fishing boat last month were handed to Kenyan government for trial.

Kenya arrests 132 suspected pirates handed over mainly by Western warships patrolling the waters off the Somalia. Ten of 132 suspected pirates have been already convicted.

Foreign warships from western counties are patrolling the area to try and prevent pirates, but the Somali pirates are now hijacking for ships far into the Indian Ocean.
