The windiest gusts and the heaviest rains hitting the British Isles this year were no match for the 2009 Lord Mayor's show which dates back to 1215. Last year more than 480,000 people lined the parade route in which the Lord Mayor of the City travelled from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice and then back again.
Billed as a family day out with events for all, the parade which featured floats from 63 organisations included 122 motorised vehicles, 149 horses and 23 bands. More than 6,000 took part in the parade coming from as far afield as Hong Kong. Together they created a procession 2.9 miles long!
The Lord Mayor travelled along the route in his 252 year old State Coach accompanied by his Chaplain, the Sword Bearer, the Common Cryer and Serjant-at-arms. His gold plated coach weighing just under 3 tonnes.
